We’re excited to announce that Envestnet’s Brooks Friederich and David Hawal have been named to Citywire’s list of Professional Buyer Rising Stars for 2019. Recently released, the list highlights 40 young manager research professionals who are committed to improving the industry.
Brooks Friederich, Director of Research Strategy
Brooks joined Envestnet in 2008. He currently works from our office in Denver, where he oversees the team responsible for the research and due diligence for Fund Strategist Portfolios. His team sets standards in benchmarking and provides risk profiling and classification used across the firm. He is also a member of the Envestnet Research Group and Investment Committee.
“Brooks is responsible for aligning PMC Research priorities and strategic positioning within the broader Envestnet initiatives, expanding and strengthening relationships with internal and external clients, and evolving PMC Research to remain relevant with changing Envestnet technologies, industry regulations, and investment products,” said Tim Clift, Executive Vice President – Chief Investment Strategist, Envestnet | PMC. “Brooks has established himself as a leader in the model portfolio industry, setting standards in benchmarking, risk profiling and classification that are broadly used today. He is sought after by clients and the media as a subject expert in this industry.”
David Hawal, Vice President and Head of Equity Manager Research
David has been a member of the Envestnet team for 10 years and now leads the firm’s equity research. Also based in Denver, David manages the research team’s workflow and is responsible for the professional development of the equity team.
“David has quickly risen through the ranks to become our head of equity research. He has been integral in expanding coverage and helping drive innovation with fresh and easily digestible deliverables. He is the ultimate team player, moving between teams when needed and acting as a ballast and mentor between all the research teams,” Clift said.
“He is responsible for the professional development of the equity team, particularly around developing research expertise and instilling a rich research culture; implementing and maintaining rigorous research standards consistently across the research team; and working with the product management and consulting teams to manage research workflow and priorities to meet new product development requirements.”
Manager research, a niche field in the broader investment industry, requires inquisitive analysts who are tracking recent trends and approaches, and who are committed to excellence. The honorees were selected based on nominations by industry peers or managers, are under the age of 40, and are located in the United States. Applicants were reviewed based on their professional qualifications, academic achievements, and their role within their company. No more than two professionals were selected per company.
Congratulations to Brooks and David on their much-deserved acknowledgement, and to the entire list of nominees!
